Documentary on late E Street Band sax player Clarence Clemons coming out on DVD/Blu-ray in August

Virgil Films/MVD Entertainment GroupA new documentary about late E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons will be released as a DVD/Blu-ray set on August 13.

Clarence Clemons: Who Do I Think I Am? takes an intimate look at the life of “The Big Man” through new interviews with various friends, family members, collaborators and admirers, including Bruce Springsteen, Joe Walsh and President Bill Clinton.

The film also features footage and photos of Clemons shot by Nick Mead — the documentary’s director — during a trip Clarence took to China in 2003 following Springsteen and the E Street Band’s The Rising tour. During the journey, Clemons reflected on his spirituality and enjoyed his time as a relatively anonymous traveler.

Also appearing on the movie are longtime E Street Band multi-instrumentalist Nils Lofgren, Clarence’s nephew and current E Street sax player Jake Clemons, and acclaimed musician, songwriter and producer Narada Michael Walden.

In a trailer for Who Do I Think I Am?, Clinton discusses his relationship with Clemons, noting, “It was one of those things where sometimes you hit it off with someone, and even if you’re not with them a whole lot of times, every time you are with them, it’s so special you just never get over it.”

Also in the promo, Walden says, “When he blew his horn, it could liberate people all over the world. The sound was enormous.”

Who Do I Think I Am? premiered in April at the Asbury Park Music and Film Festival in New Jersey. Prior to its release on DVD/Blu-ray, the doc will be shown on June 7 at the New Jersey International Film Festival in New Brunswick, and this summer at the Woods Hole Film Festival in Falmouth, Massachusetts.

A TV or video streaming service release is also planned for early 2020.
