Paul Simon is a lifelong New York Yankees fan, and the folk-rock legend will get to combine two of his passions when he plays a short set tonight at a New York City benefit for a charity founded by former Yankees pitcher David Cone.
The David Cone Foundation Fundraiser, which will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Cone’s 1999 perfect game against the Montreal Expos at Yankee Stadium, will feature Simon backed by a band made up of former Yankees stars, among them Bernie Williams, Paul O’Neill and David Wells. The event will take place at the Mandarin Oriental New York hotel.
Cone’s foundation will use proceeds raised by the event to provide support to in-need children in the Bronx, New York, as well as to charitable organizations including the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The benefit also will feature a performance by rapper Fat Joe, speeches and tributes by a variety of Yankees legends and broadcasters, plus dinner, cocktails and more.
Individual tickets to the fundraiser cost $1,000, while a VIP table for 10 is priced at $10,000.
