New ZZ Top documentary, "That Little Ol' Band from Texas," to premiere next month in L.A.

Banger Films/Abramorama/Eagle Rock Entertainment Just days before ZZ Top hits the road on its 50th anniversary tour, a new documentary about the legendary Texas rock trio will premiere in Los Angeles at the Cinerama Dome on August 13 at 8 p.m. PT.

ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band from Texas features brand-new interviews with the group’s members — singer/guitarist Billy Gibbons, bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard — plus rare archival footage, animated segments and conversations with celebrity fans Billy Bob Thornton and Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme.

The movie also includes an intimate performance by the band filmed especially for the doc at historic Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas.

Gibbons, Hill and Beard will be on hand to take part in a Q&A during the premiere. Screenings of That Little Ol’ Band from Texas also will be held at theaters across Canada on August 23, and in select U.S. cinemas on various dates in August, September and October. “I think even our most steadfast fans will find themselves surprised by what they learn about those men behind the beards and cheap sunglasses,” says Gibbons of the documentary. “There we are, up there on the silver screen and it’s something we’re delighted to share with fans of all stripes.”

That Little Ol’ Band from Texas was directed by Sam Dunn, whose credits include Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey, Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage and Super Duper Alice Cooper. You can check out a trailer for the film at the Eagle Rock YouTube channel.

As previously reported, ZZ Top’s 50th anniversary tour kicks off its on August 16 in Ridgefield, Washington, and is mapped out through a November 9 concert in Shreveport, Louisiana. Cheap Trick and Lynyrd Skynyrd will be joining the band at some stops.
