September 3, 1965: Lou Christie records “Lightnin’ Strikes”. According to Christie, the head of his record label didn’t like the song and went so far as to throw it in the trash! Christie put up some of his own money to get it played on the air and it became a hit; months later, the same record executive who threw the tape in the garbage was handing Christie a Gold record!
