September 11, 1982: Frank Zappa scores his only Top 40 hit when “Valley Girl” peaks at #32. The song was inspired by Frank’s 14-year-old daughter, Moon Unit, who had begun picking up the lingo of the “valley girls” in San Fernando Valley and would often use terms like, “Gag me with a spoon” and “Grody to the max”. As a result, she not only provided the voice of the Valley Girl in the song, but received songwriting credits as well!
