The Empty Hearts, the supergroup that features founding members of Blondie, The Cars and The Romantics, have released a pair of brand-new songs — “Coat-Tailer” and “Run and Hide from You.”
The tracks are available now as digital singles, via streaming services and as a limited-edition glow-in-the-dark vinyl seven-inch disc. The songs are The Empty Hearts’ first releases as part of a new deal with Little Steven Van Zandt‘s Wicked Cool Records label, which also will be issuing the band’s forthcoming sophomore studio album in 2020.
You also can check out “Coat-Tailer” and “Run and Hide from You” at The Empty Hearts’s official Bandcamp page. The new tunes were co-produced by the group and Ed Stasium, who also produced the band’s 2014 self-titled debut, as well as albums by The Ramones, Living Colour and The Smithereens.
“Coat-Tailer” is a rocking-yet-melodic song influenced by ’70s power pop, while “Run and Hide from You” clearly was inspired by The Byrds‘ jangly early tunes.
The Empty Hearts feature Blondie drummer Clem Burke, Cars guitarist Elliot Easton and Romantics singer/guitarist Wally Palmar, as well as bassist Andy Babiuk, a longtime member of the veteran garage-rock act The Chesterfield Kings.
