Joe Walsh says playing on new Ringo Starr song with Paul McCartney was "a real honor and privilege"

The longtime Eagles guitarist tells Billboard that it was “a real honor and privilege” to contribute to the recording.

“Oh boy, that was great,” Walsh says. “It sounds just like The Beatles. At first I didn’t know what to do, but I think I really nailed it, and I’m so proud of it. I just thought, ‘What would George [Harrison] do?'”

Meanwhile, Joe’s third annual VetsAid benefit concert takes place this Sunday, November 10, at the Toyota Center in Houston. The event has raised a total of $1.2 million so far for various veterans organizations, many of which are local, grassroots agencies.

“If a vet gets home and he’s pretty alone and not a lot of people understand him, that’s the beginning of the depression and the isolation, and that’s the seed of the suicides,” Walsh explains to Billboard. “So it’s so important to keep those organizations going, and that’s what we’ve been able to do.”

The lineup for this year’s show includes The Doobie Brothers, ZZ Top, Sheryl Crow and country star Brad Paisley.

Next year, Walsh will hit the road with the Eagles on a full U.S. tour that will feature the band playing the entire Hotel California album with orchestral accompaniment.

Joe says preparing the performance, which they debuted at a trio of shows in Las Vegas in September and October, was challenging because some songs on the record had never been played live before.

“We had to go back and figure ’em out, and it was a lot of work,” he notes.
